Biography
I recently moved with my husband and daughter to Boonsboro MD to be close to family and for my husband to expand his career. We are really excited to be a part of this historical community. For the past year and a half I've been helping develop arts programming as the Arts & Humanities Director at the YMCA of Frederick County. Working with our youth and bringing new opportunities to the area has brought me great pleasure.
Previous to this, I had been working in a wonderful arts community, Floyd Va, as a Director of Education and Gallery Programming at Floyd Center for the Arts for more than five years. I coordinated over 80 classes each year, worked with hundreds of students and organized many arts activities. The Center has given me the opportunity to flourish in the nonprofit world and the flexibility to have a family and home as I wanted.
I had been a professional artist for the 6 years, thanks to the encouragement of my husband, Sam, prior to the working at The Center. My daughter, Abigail, and many of my family members are the inspiration for much of my artwork. My husband and I also are grateful for the rewarding experience of being foster parents during this time. I created artwork for my own pleasure and custom artwork for clients, including signs, murals and portraits, as well as operating a small art store.
I create art in many mediums including watercolor, acrylic, oil and pottery from my home studio. My past experiences as an art store owner and high school art teacher have given me a broad knowledge of many styles, artists, artworks and materials. I use this knowledge as I continue to experiment with a variety of mediums myself. I plan to continue in many mediums and styles, learning forever as I go, for as long as my creativity will let me.
In the past I have worked and volunteered in my local community as a board member of the Hagy Swim Team Parent Committe, The Berkeley Arts Council and the Secretary of ArtBerkeley, Inc. I also taught First Aid and CPR for the American Red Cross and volunteer for both the Martinsburg-Berkeley County Convention and Visitor's Bureau and Mainstreet Martinsburg.
