Teaching Adults
Adult CPR Class
I have taught adults since I was fifteen years old. Teaching students that are older than you can be intimidating, but I have always reminded myself that these students are here for a purpose and I can help them. I have taught Lifeguarding, CPR, AED, Blood Borne Pathogens, First Aid, and Swim Lesson for the American Red Cross. These classes have included all ages, from six months to 81 years old. These early classes were invaluable to me as a young educator and shaped my future interest in adult education and community involvement.
Fine HeArts, Senior Arts Class
More recently I have taught adult art classes at the Floyd Center for the Arts with the "Fine HeArts" senior art class. This self driven group meets bi-weekly and either invites an instructor/artist to work with them or completes community service work. I was thrilled to be asked to teach them on numerous occasions in watercolor and drawing. Each lesson I designed started with some simple questions about their wishes. I was able to meet not only their expectations this way, but mine too, and ensured they were able to successfully learn the information and complete an artwork.
Private Art Lessons I offer a variety of art lessons on a private or semi-private schedule at my home studio. I teach beginner to advanced classes in drawing, painting and sculpture. Students work to create original artwork at their own pace. Classes I have taught in the past include: Pen and Ink, Thrown Pottery, Watercolor Landscapes, Oil Painting with a Palette Knife, Graphite Drawing, Portrait Drawing, Hand Built Ceramic Sculpture, Polymer Clay Jewelry, Mixed Media Sculpture. I am willing to teach many other art mediums and techniques as well.
